About Kebaya Oslo
Why I created Kebaya Oslo.
The answer is simple.
I have always admired traditional clothing and the stories they tell.
Among them, the kebaya has held a special place in my heart since I was a little girl.
One of my fondest childhood memories is watching my grandmother wear her kebaya in her everyday life. She wore it with such natural grace and elegance that I was captivated by its beauty from a very young age.
As I grew older, my admiration for the kebaya only deepened. I came to appreciate its timeless elegance, delicate embroidery and the artistry behind each piece. More than that, I admired the confidence, dignity and beauty it seemed to bring to every woman who wore it.
Years later, after making Norway my home, I realised that my admiration for the kebaya had never faded.
Living in Norway inspired me to create a welcoming community where people who share an appreciation for the beauty of the kebaya can come together, make new friendships and enjoy memorable experiences.
That simple idea became Kebaya Oslo.
An independent initiative
Created from genuine admiration, nothing more.
Kebaya Oslo is an independent, non-profit initiative created from genuine admiration for the kebaya.
We do not represent UNESCO, any government, museum, educational institution or cultural organisation, nor do we speak on behalf of any particular community or tradition.
Instead, Kebaya Oslo is simply a place where people can come together to appreciate the beauty of the kebaya, enjoy meaningful conversations and create lasting friendships through shared experiences.
My hope is simply to create a welcoming community where everyone feels inspired by the elegance of the kebaya and the friendships it can bring.
